Orchard

The Hook Community Orchard was planted in 2010 with native fruit trees including apple, pear, plum and damson, as an asset for the whole community to relax in, share and enjoy. At the same time as the meadow, sections of the orchard were also harrowed and sown with seed, creating a Wildflower Walk through this central area of the reserve, adding plant diversity to feed insects and, in turn, birds. Orchards are in steep decline in the UK so The Hook Community Orchard is an important refuge for a wide range of wildlife whilst helping to preserve our national heritage of unique fruit tree varieties.
